Congregation Solel Online B'nei Mitsva Handbook
Dear Parents,
One of the most important benchmarks in a Jewish child’s upbringing is the Bar Mitsva process. Becoming a bar or bat mitsva means taking responsibility for your Jewishness and your relationship with God. At congregation Solel we do this through the same three pillars that hold up the world, according to the rabbis of the Talmud: Torah, Avodah (worship) and Gmilut Chassadim (acts of loving kindness).
The Torah of a Bar Mitsva is introduced at the beginning of Religious School and continues through confirmation and into adulthood. Avodah, sacred worship, is part of our Jewish living, but the Shabbat service of the bar or bat mitsva becomes a benchmark event in the child’s life. Gmilut Chassadim (acts of loving kindness) are manifested in the Mitsva Project and the tsedaka of each family.
The links below were designed to make the Bar/Bat Mitsva process at Congregation Solel as easy to understand as possible. As policy changes, so may these pages change, but in general we have tried to answer as many questions as we could so that this process can be one of joy and celebration.
Of course, you can always direct questions to the Religious School office and the Director of Education by phone (847) 433-3417 or by email, religious_school@solel.org.
Mazel tov on your forthcoming simcha!
