Mission of the Religious School at Congregation Solel (5768)
We strive to provide a welcoming and engaging supplemental Jewish educational and experiential environment. We do this through the warmth and care of our teachers, the quality and creativity of our curriculum, the active involvement of our parents and the commitment of our congregation to foster the next generation of Reform Jews. Our school aspires to teach and make part of students lives the three foundational pillars of Judaism; Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Chasadim.
תורה
For us, Torah is our story and the rich moral and ethical guidelines we are taught through narrative and commandment. This Torah is not limited to the Five Books of Moses, the Prophets or the Writings. It instructs us about our relationship with God and the importance of Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel, and Am Yisrael, the Jewish People. Our Torah begins with the Bet of Bereishit and continues throughout the generations in the literal, hinted, interpretive and communal understandings of the text and experience of the Jewish people.
עבודה
Avodah is our expression of prayer, appreciation, and worship. Through Avodah, we express our gratitude and awe toward our creator and creation. Our commitment to Avodah is expressed through our serious study of our common language, Hebrew, and its incorporation into our song and service. Through concern for the environment and humanity, we express our deep appreciation for creation.
גמילות חסדים
Gemilut Chasadim, combines the commandment of Torah to pursue justice, Tzedek, and our understanding that we are partners with God in Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. This mission manifests itself in the Tsedakah we give, the service we do and the empathy and compassion we develop in our students so that they may act from their position of privilege to help foster a more just and righteous world.
